STORY: Forget Formula One for a day – motorsport's quirkiest endurance challenge saw 30 teams race modified ride-on mowers to their limits in a gruelling nine-hour battle on Saturday (August 8).

A large field on the outskirts of Uckfield, East Sussex transformed into a high-octane battleground where garden machinery met genuine motorsport drama, with speeds reaching up to 50mph around a purpose-built circuit.

The spectacle kicked off with a Le Mans-style start, as drivers sprinted across the track before climbing aboard their unlikely racing machines to begin nine hours of non-stop competition.

Teams of three drivers rotated throughout the marathon, executing tactical pit stops for refuelling, driver changes and mechanical repairs in scenes that would not look out of place at any major endurance event.

When the chequered flag finally fell after nine hours of grass-cutting chaos, it was Dean Fuller who led SDS Racing past the finish line to claim victory in one of motorsport's most eccentric challenges.
