STORY: Several hundred nudists cycled through Berlin on Sunday (August 9), to promote naturists culture.

Ralf Sprenger, who took part in organising the event "World Naked Bike Ride" told Reuters "I simply love being naked; for me, nudity isn’t something I need to be ashamed of."

Sprenger added that showing that nudity is nothing anyone needs to be afraid of is part of what drives the participants to cycle naked through Berlin.

In the German capital, known for its liberal culture and numerous festivals and parades, the cyclists were not likely to stir a shock among the onlookers when they cycled along their 33 Kilometre route (20 miles).

According to the event's website, "naturists" or "nudists" want to promote unity with the nature and environmental protection, as well as inclusion of diversity, self-acceptance and tolerance. A spirit shared by participant Aron, who carried a sign saying "We are all vulnerable".

"I’m sort of against consumerism; I’m against war. I think we go overboard with cars and clothes," Aron said.

Everybody who committed to participate in that spirit was invited to join the tour. In their invitation, organisers stressed that the nudity of the participants should strictly be understood in a non-sexual character. The display of intimate jewellery or fetish accessories was not welcome.
