STORY: Lebanese in Beirut were pessimistic on Sunday (April 12) over expected direct talks between Israel and the Lebanese government.

Israeli and Lebanese officials plan talks in the U.S. on Tuesday (April 14).

More than 90 people were killed in Israeli air strikes across Lebanon on Saturday, the Lebanese health ministry said, bringing the war's death toll to 2,020 people, including 165 children, nearly 250 women and 85 medics.

Hezbollah said it had conducted several military operations against Israeli positions on Saturday (April 11), both within Lebanese territory and in northern Israel.

The U.S. and Iran failed to reach an agreement to end their war despite marathon talks that concluded on Sunday (April 12) in the Pakistani capital Islamabad, jeopardising a fragile ceasefire.

“There is around 10% hope that the negotiations succeed, only 10%. Because of one reason, the United States and Israel are deceivers. They can negotiate with you on something, and negotiations change with them to another thing. For example, they negotiated, and a ceasefire happened, and Lebanon was meant to be included in the ceasefire. In moments, things changed, and they removed Lebanon from the ceasefire (deal).”
