Snow blanketed sections of the Great Wall in Beijing and neighboring Hebei Province on Sunday, tracing its winding walls and watchtowers across white mountain ridges.

Beijing's Badaling section received its first snowfall of the winter on Saturday. By Sunday morning, visitors were walking through snow as flakes settled on trees and ancient stonework.

In Qian'an, north China's Hebei Province, snow covered the walls and watchtowers along the Yanshan Mountains, making the fortifications resemble a silver snake stretching across the landscape.

The scene evoked "The mountains dance like silver snakes," a celebrated line from Mao Zedong's poem "Snow," written in February 1936 to the tune of "Qinyuanchun." The line captures the sweeping forms of snow-covered mountains.
