Yakutsk (Rusia)

STORY: Members of a local winter swimming club braved -30C air temperatures on Sunday (November 23) in Sakha, also known as Yakutia, one of world's coldest regions.

The water, despite being 0C, feels warm to dive in due to the large temperature difference between it and air, ice swimmers told Reuters.

Those who swim in the cold water believe it boosts their immunity and fortifies their body against any diseases.

Located 5,000 km (3,100 miles) east of Moscow on the permafrost of the Russian Far East, Yakutsk is the world's coldest large city. The subzero temperatures in the city often last from October until April and sometimes fall below -60C in winter.

In winter months -30C temperature is considered quite warm in Yakutsk.
