STORY: Fire crews in North Macedonia faced a difficult night on Saturday (August 22), struggling to reach a major wildfire in Strumica, south of the capital Skopje.

According to media reports, at least one house caught fire in the village of Sofilar.

This summer has brought severe drought and numerous wildfire outbreaks in much of the Balkans. Neighbouring Serbia this week called in European Union and Russian support as it struggles to control fires in the Deliblato Sands nature reserve.
