D009-IRAN ARAQCHI SOBRE ORMUZ
STORY: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi on Sunday (October 25) said "fundamental and strategic changes" in the region mean "nothing will be the same" after the 40‑day war, including management of the Strait of Hormuz.
He said Iran and Oman have long kept the waterway secure, but "new realities now prevail" and shipping and management "will not be the same as before," adding that talks with Muscat are ongoing.
Araqchi said Tehran's policies will not change "whether war breaks out or not," warning against "another military attack" on Iran. "They have tried twice and seen the results," he said, adding that a third attempt would yield "no different result."
President Donald Trump said on Friday (October 23) the United States may carry out "another little Epic Fury" as the Iran war nears its eight‑month mark, with rising fuel prices weighing on midterm elections. He said Washington could end the war quickly but is weighing a swift conclusion versus a gradual wind‑down, and has stated there will be no attack on Iran before the November 3 elections, while also saying the war will end soon "one way or the other."
The United States and Israel attacked Iran on February 28, prompting Iranian strikes on Israel and Gulf states hosting U.S. bases, while Israeli attacks on Lebanon and U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran have killed thousands and displaced millions. The conflict has driven up global oil and gas prices. Tehran plans a wider retaliation if fighting resumes, and Iranian security officials say Iran has detailed plans to target undersea communications cables in the Gulf if attacked again.
