Protesters marched through downtown Los Angeles on Saturday (February 14) to denounce the Iranian government’s recent deadly crackdown on dissidents, while urging global solidarity with the Iranian people.

Waving large Iranian and U.S. flags, the demonstrators carried banners with messages like "Long Live Iran" and "The Islamic Republic Killed My Brother," as they chanted for freedom and justice, drawing attention to the regime's human rights abuses and the plight of those impacted.

The protest in Los Angeles was part of other rallies worldwide, with the largest gatherings including Munich and Toronto, on what is known as the “Global Day of Action”, according to local media.

Iranian opposition figure Reza Pahlavi on Saturday said U.S. military intervention in Iran could save lives and urged President Donald Trump's administration not to spend too long negotiating with Tehran's clerical rulers on a nuclear deal.

A campaign of mass arrests and intimidation has led to the arrests of thousands as Iranian authorities seek to deter further protests after last month's crackdown on the bloodiest unrest since 1979. The protests began on December 28 as a modest demonstration in Tehran’s Grand Bazaar over economic hardship and quickly spread nationwide.
