STORY: Israeli government spokesperson Shosh Badrosian said on Sunday (October 12) that the release of hostages held in Gaza will begin early Monday morning (October 13).

All 20 living hostages are expected to be released to the Red Cross together at one time, she added, and Israel is also preparing to receive 28 bodies of hostages killed in captivity.

A ceasefire between Israel and Hamas held in Gaza for a third day on Sunday ahead of the expected release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners and an address by U.S. President Donald Trump to Israel's parliament.

The hostages were either taken captive on October 7, 2023, when the group's militants launched the surprise attack on Israel that ignited the war, killed during the attack or held in Gaza since 2014, Badrosian said.

Trump is due to arrive in Israel on Monday to address the Knesset, the parliament, before traveling to Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt for a world leaders' summit on ending the Gaza war.
