UK residents on Sunday (November 16) swept away floodwater and cleared up inside water-soaked businesses, after Storm Claudia caused heavy flooding in Wales and England.

Business owners were left counting the cost in the run up to the Christmas season in Monmouth, southeastern Wales, and Ewyas Harold village, Herefordshere, near the Welsh-English border.

"This should be the time of the year now where we just build, and this time up to Christmas, it's so important. We've lost so much stuff,” said one store owner on Saturday.

“Businesses are just, they are just not going to recover before Christmas. It's dreadful,” said Martin Newell, a Conservative councillor for Monmouthshire, adding that he has been on the phone to residents who have lost everything.

Members of the community of Ewyas Harold village helped local stores remove stock from shelves and tidy up outside after the flooding.

“This is what community spirit looks like. They've all turned up to help us so our stock out, clean our shop, etc. etc.,” said store manager Sophie Wareing.

Violent weather brought on by Storm Claudia killed three people and injured dozens in Portugal, authorities there said on Saturday, while in Britain rescue workers were organizing evacuations due to heavy flooding in Wales and England.
