D007-MADRID IMAGENES DESDE INTERIOR PAPAMOVIL
Pope Leo led Sunday (June 7) mass in Madrid's iconic Cibeles Square after driving past more than one million people who lined the streets to see him on the second day of his Spain tour.
Leo urged the crowds to live their Catholic faith by helping others in his sermon for the Mass.
The mass falls on the Catholic Corpus Christi feast day, or body of Christ, and the pope led a procession of the faithful around the square, also lined with hundreds of thousands of people hoping to catch a glimpse of him and walking on flower beds arranged along the route.
Cibeles Square, with its 18th century marble fountain and neo-classical architecture is also where people traditionally gather to celebrate Real Madrid football club's victories.
After Mass, Leo was scheduled to hold a private meeting with fellow members of his Augustinian religious order in the afternoon before meeting figures from the world of entertainment, sport and culture at a concert venue in central Madrid.
