STORY: Hundreds of volunteers worked around the clock at Bogota's El Campin stadium on Saturday (August 15), transforming the sports venue into Colombia's largest humanitarian aid collection center following devastating earthquakes that struck the country's west.

More than 7,000 citizen volunteers have operated the facility continuously since August 10, processing donations for victims in Cali, Pereira, Manizales, Quibdo and other affected municipalities, according to Erica Delgado, communications director of coordinating organization Sencia.

The center has shipped 700 tons of humanitarian supplies over five days through an assembly-line operation involving reception, sorting, preparation, packing and truck loading.

The twin earthquakes on August 10 devastated residential areas across Colombia's central-western region.

"We have operated for 5 days, 24-hour service at the collection center, we haven't stopped for even 1 minute, we have had more than 7,000 citizen volunteers who have worked 24 hours during all these days in our humanitarian assistance operation line which is reception, separation, preparation, packing of supplies and finally packaging and loading of trucks, that's what we've had in the operation, to date 700 tons have left the Nemesio Camacho during all these days. It is the largest collection center in the country."
