D005-VARIOS HORAS DEL PLANETA
Paris’ landmark Eiffel Tower went dark for around five minutes on Saturday (March 28) evening alongside other international landmarks to mark Earth Hour, a global campaign to raise awareness of environmental issues.
First launched in Sydney in 2007, Earth Hour encourages people to ‘give an hour’ and make a positive impact for planet Earth and is organised by the World Wildlife Fund.

"The pressing issue of the moment is undoubtedly our heavy reliance on fossil fuels, which is a key driver of the climate crisis. We can see that the climate crisis is clearly worsening. We are witnessing increasing numbers of floods and heatwaves worldwide. In Europe, the rise in temperatures is even more pronounced than the global average. We are facing a great sense of urgency, and there is much we can do. We have already made a great deal of progress over the last 20 years, but we need to move faster and, above all, we must act more decisively to do the right things. That means expanding renewable energy, installing more heat pumps, getting electric cars onto the roads, and driving forward digitalisation and the development of entire energy systems so that all these systems can work well together."

"We urgently need a package to achieve independence from fossil fuels and to halt the rollback of climate protection and environmental policies. The German government must finally realise that fossil fuels are not the future."

"It’s the 20th anniversary of Earth Hour, and it’s as important as ever because the climate crisis doesn’t stop just because we don’t talk about it. The climate crisis is actually moving very fast, and we have to be faster to stop it. And that’s why we need the governments of the world to become independent, to drive independence from fossil fuels, so that we can live in a renewable world and stop the climate crisis."
