D005-CHILE MANI LGTBIQ+ ANTE PROXIMAS ELECCIONES
STORY: Thousands marched in Santiago’s annual LGBTQ+ parade on Saturday (November 8), demanding an end to hate speech and reforms to Chile’s anti-discrimination law, according to organizers.
Participants, including trans activists, couples, and costumed protesters, filled the streets with some calling for greater visibility and equality.
The event, organized by the Movement for Homosexual Integration and Liberation (MOVILH), coincided with National Diversity Month and came a week before presidential and parliamentary elections. MOVILH warned that LGBTQ+ rights remain fragile and dependent on political leadership.
Chile’s current anti-discrimination law, known as the Zamudio Law, has been criticized for weak enforcement, and activists are pushing for stronger protections ahead of the presidential elections in November.
