D005-CANADA TORONTO COMICON
STORY: Cosplayers filled the convention floor at Toronto Comicon on Saturday (March 21), as fans gathered in Toronto to celebrate comics, gaming and pop culture.
The three-day event, which kicked off on Friday, draws thousands of attendees each year, with fans and cosplayers mingling, showing off costumes and meeting celebrity guests.
This year’s lineup included Cary Elwes, Mara Wilson and cast members from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, marking the franchise’s 35th anniversary.
Thousands of attendees streamed through the convention center halls, many in elaborate handmade costumes. Among them was Oliver Ingoe, who showcased a detailed “Elnina” outfit from video game "Deltarune: Chapter 3".
The headpiece proved the most challenging element, requiring repeated trial and error. “I’m pretty happy with how it turned out,” Ingoe said.
Gareth Foster posed for photos dressed as an Ultramarine from miniature wargame "Warhammer 40,000", a project he completed with his father over roughly 120 hours. Despite last-minute fixes, Foster said he was satisfied with the final result.
Other attendees highlighted the creativity and confidence cosplay can inspire. Altay, dressed as Asriel from the video game "Undertale", described the experience as transformative.
“It’s like a confidence boost… you can go out and be this character,” they said.
Longtime fans also paid tribute to classic characters. Robert Choquette and Nicole Oliver appeared as Beetlejuice and his bride, citing their love for "Beetlejuice" and its recent stage adaptation as inspiration.
For many, the event offered more than costumes. Meghan, dressed as Asajj Ventress from Star Wars, said the convention is about connection and community.
“The world’s kind of scary right now,” Meghan added. “This is a nice way to just have a little bit of escapism and have a lot of fun.”
