D005-BOLIVIA MARCHA POR LA DIVERSIDAD
Hundreds of people took part in the La Paz Pride "March for Sexual and Gender Diversity" on Saturday (September 26).
The march, which usually takes place in June, was postponed because of a wave of social unrest and roadblocks that affected the capital earlier this year.
In 2025, the Bolivian Ombudsman's Office registered 72 reports of human rights violations against LGBTQ+ people.
In a statement in May, the office expressed concern over the elimination of the Sexual Diversity Unit of the Autonomous Municipal Government of La Paz.

"Beyond showing that we are a large community, we took to the streets and marched on a day of advocacy, a day of struggle, a day of fighting for our rights. We know that we are not treated equally compared to the rest of the population. We know that we do not have the same rights. We know that we are discriminated against for being gay, lesbian, or transgender. That is why we take to the streets."

This diversity in La Paz is very important, especially when it comes to sexuality, which is still a taboo in education, in the way we live, and in how we build our social realities. These issues must continue to be questioned. For many years, many decades, many centuries, we have been silenced and held back, and today we are beginning to open our eyes. Sexuality belongs to everyone, and we should live it with complete freedom."
