Nine people were treated for life-threatening injuries after a series of stabbings on a train near Cambridge in eastern England on Saturday (November 1), and two men were arrested in what Prime Minister Keir Starmer called an "appalling incident."

British Transport Police said counterterrorism police were supporting its investigation whilst it worked to establish the full circumstances and motivation for the incident.

Video footage of Huntingdon station, where the train stopped, showed officers and workers in high-visibility jackets inspecting the train and tracks with flashlights shortly after midnight on Sunday (November 2). A forensic team accompanied by sniffer dogs was also seen conducting investigations at the scene.

Cambridgeshire police said they were called at 1939 GMT after reports that multiple people had been stabbed on the 1825 service from Doncaster in northern England to London King's Cross.

The train stopped at Huntingdon, where armed officers entered the train and two men were arrested, according to the police.
