STORY: Protesters in Santiago and Buenos Aires marched in solidarity with Palestinians on Saturday (August 9), condemning the actions of Israel in Gaza.

The protesters banged on pots while chanting “Stop the genocide”and called on governments to sever ties with. Among the participants were prominent figures from human rights organizations and individuals with Palestinian heritage.

"Israel is starving the Palestinian people; hunger is a war crime, a crime against humanity, and an act of genocide," protester Carolina Pastene told Reuters in Chile.

The demonstrations took place amid growing international criticism of Israel's military actions in Gaza, as global attention focuses on the starvation in Gaza.

Most of Gaza's population of about 2 million has been displaced multiple times over the past 22 months and aid groups are warning that the enclave's residents are on the verge of famine.
