Tegucigalpa (Honduras)

STORY: Thousands of Hondurans took to the streets in more than 50 cities across the country on Saturday (August 16) for what’s been dubbed an “extensive prayer for Honduras” ahead of presidential elections in November.

In the capital city of Tegucigalpa, demonstrators marched carrying Honduran flags while praying for peace and fair elections. The nationwide event was organised jointly by the Episcopal Conference and the Evangelical Fraternity.

The prayer mobilisation comes as Honduras prepares to elect a new president on November 30 amid growing political tensions.

In recent weeks, the three main political parties have engaged in a series of accusations against each other, contributing to an atmosphere of uncertainty and distrust among the electorate.
