STORY: Thousands of visitors descended on Toronto's High Park on Saturday (May 2) as the city's cherry blossoms reached peak bloom, turning parts of the park into a canopy of pink and white.
Couples and families took selfies and posed for photos beneath the blossoms, in a seasonal ritual that many residents see as a respite from daily life.
"You forget all your stress," said visitor Mili Choksi.
The bloom's timing, often difficult to predict, is closely watched by locals on the park's website where they track the trees' progress to "Stage 6" marking peak bloom.
Despite a lingering Spring chill, visitors said the blossoms signaled the arrival of warmer weather.
"It's that hope now that summer is here," said visitor Sagar Soni.
For some like Florence, the visit was years in the making.
"I think I'll come back next year," said the 64-year-old, who said he was seeing the blossoms for the first time despite living in Toronto for 40 years.

SONI: "Yeah. And we always have that memory. So every year we come here and cherish that memory over and over again. And yeah, this is the right time where we start welcoming the summer. I know it's a little cold out here in Toronto, but yeah, it's, it's that hope now the summer is here and so, you know, makes us feel really good."
