D003-ARGENTINA MANIFESTACION CONTRA ASESINATO MUJERES
STORY: Thousands of people marched in downtown Buenos Aires on Saturday (September 27) to demand justice for the brutal murders of three women—which were livestreamed—in a case that has shocked Argentina.
Brenda del Castillo, 20; Morena Verdi, 20; and Lara Gutierrez, 15, were last seen alive at 9:30 p.m. on September 19, when they were lured into a house on the outskirts of Buenos Aires in a trap organized by an international drug organization, said Javier Alonso, the Buenos Aires provincial security minister.
The women were killed that night and their bodies were found buried in a garden, he told reporters this week.
Their torture prior to being killed was livestreamed on social media to a closed group. In the recording, the head of the criminal organization can be heard saying, "This is what happens to anyone who steals drugs from me," Alonso said.
According to the authorities, the women had previously been in contact with members of the organization, which has its command center in the city of Buenos Aires.
Officials announced on Wednesday that four people had been arrested on aggravated homicide charges. On Friday night, Security Minister Patricia Bullrich said a fifth man had been detained in Bolivia.
The march was organized by the “Ni una menos” (No one less) collective to mark the Day of Global Action for a Legal, Safe and Sensitive Abortion.
