Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on Saturday (November 15) invoked John Lennon's peace anthem "Imagine" during a rally with supporters, singing along to the iconic song as he called for calm amid escalating tensions with the United States.

"Peace, peace, peace. Do everything for peace. As John Lennon used to say," Maduro told the crowd, before singing a few words of the iconic song.

As "Imagine" was played over loudspeakers, the Venezuelan leader sang and applauded along with supporters, while government officials on stage made peace signs with their hands.

This gesture comes as relations between Caracas and Washington deteriorate over increased U.S. military presence in the Caribbean.

Maduro took part in an event with his supporters in Miranda, where he swore in the Bolivarian base committees.
