D002-FILIPINAS PROTESTA CONTRA LA CORRUPCION

21 de septiembre 2025 - 11:07

Manila, Filipinas

Thousands of people gathered at a public park in Manila on Sunday (September 21) in a mass protest against the perceived corruption over the government's infrastructure projects.

Allegations of mismanagement of the government's flood control projects have been in the spotlight in recent months during the country's monsoon season, which has inundated towns and cities despite spending over 545 billion pesos ($9.54 billion) on flood control since 2022.

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has supported the protests and has ordered an independent investigation into the alleged anomalies in the infrastructure projects.

The protest also coincides with the 1972 anniversary of the declaration of martial law by former dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr., which was marked by widespread human rights abuses during his two-decade rule.
