Residents of Roxas in the Philippines' Capiz province were evacuated on rubber boats early Sunday (October 19) morning, as heavy rains brought by tropical storm Fengshen inundated roads in Central Philippines, video provided by the Philippine Coast Guard showed.

Fengshen, locally named Ramil, made landfall early Saturday (October 18) over the province of Sorsogon, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h and gusts up to 90 km/h, according to the Philippine weather bureau.

The storm is moving west-northwest across the main island of Luzon and is expected to bring widespread rains over the weekend.

Fengshen slightly weakened over the province of Samar but may reintensify once it leaves landmass on Sunday. The storm is projected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility by early Monday (October 20).

Local governments have urged residents in flood-prone and coastal communities to prepare for evacuations, while fishermen and small vessels are advised to stay ashore due to rough seas.
