STORY: Footage posted by the U.S. Coast Guard (USGC) showed crew training among large waves off the coast of North Carolina on Friday (August 22), in the wake of Hurricane Erin.

An accompanying caption on Facebook said the crew were practising operating the 47-foot (14.33 metres) motor lifeboat in rough conditions, as the USGC is required to respond to emergency calls in varying conditions.

Erin has moved further out into the Atlantic Ocean after churning off the east coast of the U.S. and was downgraded by the National Hurricane Centre (NHC) on Friday to a post-tropical cyclone.

The NHC warned swimming at many beaches along the east coast of the U.S. remained dangerous over the weekend.
