STORY: Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in the northern Chinese city of Tianjin on Sunday (August 31) for a four-day visit.

A Ilyushin IL-96 plane carrying the Russian leader touched down in an airport in the northern port city, where he was greeted on the tarmac by a welcome party before being departing in a motorcade.

Putin will first attend the two-day Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin hosted by his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, alongside around 20 other world leaders, which runs from Sunday to Monday (September 1).

Putin will then travel to Beijing to hold talks with Xi and attend a massive military parade in the Chinese capital on Wednesday (September 3) commemorating the end of World War Two after Japan's formal surrender.
