D001-NORUEGA COPA DEL MUNDO FUTBOL CALLE
STORY: Egypt and Uganda were crowned men and women's Homeless World Cup champions respectively in Oslo, Norway, on Saturday (August 30).
Uganda thrashed eight-time reigning champions Mexico 6-0 with Stella Namisango scoring five to become the first African nation to win the women's tournament since Kenya in 2011.
Egypt, meanwhile, became the first ever African side to win the men's tournament with a 4-3 victory over fellow first time finalists Portugal.
The Egyptians ran out to an early three-goal lead and although the Portuguese fought back, Taher Ayman Abdelaal’s long range strike proved to be the difference between the two sides
The Homeless World Cup was first held in 2003 and advocates for a global solution to homelessness through football.
To be eligible for the Homeless World Cup, participants "must be at least sixteen years old and have experienced homelessness within the previous year, make their living as a street paper vendor, be an asylum seeker, a previous asylum seeker who recently obtained residency, or be in drug/alcohol rehabilitation and been homeless within the previous two years".
A total of 500 players from 48 countries competed in this year's edition with the matches consisting of two seven-minute halves and a maximum of four players per team on-field.
