STORY: Eyewitness video filmed on Friday (September 18) showed smoke rising, as the Nevados de Chillán volcanic complex in the Ñuble Region registered a new eruptive pulse that generated a column with high pyroclastic content reaching 380 meters above the crater.

Reuters verified the location from mountain ridges that matched archive and satellite imagery. The date verified from original file metadata and reports of a volcano eruption on September 18.

The material dispersed southward, according to Chile's National Geology and Mining Service (Sernageomin).

Sernageomin maintained the Yellow Technical Alert as specialized agencies continued monitoring volcanic activity. Authorities said the activity remained within expected parameters for the current alert level and maintained a one-kilometer security perimeter around the active crater.
