STORY: The leaders of Britain, France, Germany and Poland travelled together to Kyiv to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Saturday (May 10) in a show of unity a day after Russia's Vladimir Putin hosted his allies at a Victory Day parade in Red Square.

The summit will discuss a U.S. and European proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in the Russian war in Ukraine that if refused by Moscow would see them jointly impose new sanctions, a French diplomatic source said, adding that the step had not been finalised.

The visit by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk is the first time the leaders of the four countries have travelled together to Ukraine.

As their train pulled into Kyiv, the screen on the platform announced the arrival of the "Bravery Express".

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk met Volodymyr Zelenskiy and his wife Olena Zelenska on Kyiv's Independence Square where they placed candles at a makeshift memorial and held a moment of silence for fallen soldiers.

This is the first time the leaders of the four countries have travelled together to Ukraine.
